Crawfishing

What is a crawfish?
A crawfish resembles a mini lobster. Many people call them mini lobsters. Although they do have a little taste of a lobster, they seems to be sweeter. But that depends on how you cook it.Some people use crawfish as fishing bait. Crawfish are very scary, and cautious. Did you know a crawfish actually swims backward. If you want the same experience as a loster, but don't want to pay. Catch you some crawfish.

Crawfish Habitat
Where to find them?
Well, that's a very good question.Crawfish can be found about everywhere. They love grassy areas because they're so scary. When I say everywhere I don't really mean everywhere. They don't like water that freezes solid. If the water freezes solid they know that they'll die when it freezes. Even though there are different kinds of crawfish, I'm pretty sure you have some sort of cawfish in your area.Crawfish also seems to like to sit on rocks. They live under the ground in things called burrows. Sometimes they build them in water on the side of the roads that stays there all the time. Creeks are also places to find crawfish burrowing. So if your water condition is just right for crawfish, get on out there and try them out.(Here is a picture of crawfish habitats).
How to catch them?
There are a number of ways to catch crawfish. You can do the traps, pole and line, or hand catching. The best way for me is to get you a nice trap. Im not saying the other ways want work, but trap is the best.
Pole and Line
To do this you'll need:A pole or stick, line, and some sort of meat.(Hotdogs work very good.)
First, tie your line to your pole. Make sure you tie it tight enough to be able to lift the crawfish out. Then, tie your hotdog on the line. Make sure you have a place where you can see crawfish burrows, or the crawfish itself. Put your hotdog crawfish gets a grip on it, he/she want let it go. You'll be able to pull it out. Keep repeating this, and you'll have a bucket of crawfish. If you like crawfish, and like to have fun catching this. This is for you.
Hand Catching
What you'll need: 2 or more people and a bucket.(Bringing bait may also help, or something to scoop up the crawfish)
This is the one is very messy. Make sure you have on some old clothes. Find a shallow creek, shallow enough to see the crawfish. Some may be crawling around the stream, but others you can find underneath rocks. You or your partners need to gently lift rock. Lift it gently enough not to stir up dust. If you stir up dust, the crawfish will escape. Once you lift the rock and spot a crawfish, quickly grap or scoop it up. If you keep doingthis, you'll be wet and muddy, but have crawfish. You may also find them in ditches burrowing.
Traps
What you'll need: A store bought or handmade crawfish trap.
This is the most reasonable and easy way. Crawfish traps come in many different shapes and sizes. They are very cheap in stores, or you can make your own. What you would do is get a container and put some holes in it. If a crawfish eat all the bait, it'll start looking for a way out. Some traps don't let crawfish out. Once you have your bait in, find a nice spot to put your trap. If you have a trap that let your crawfish out, you may need to stay and keep checking your trap. If your trap doesn't let them out, then you can leave it there for a whole night if you want. Once you have let it sat, pull your trap up. Hopefully, you'll have some crawfish. Dump your crawfish in a bucket, and reset it.

Bait
Bait is the most important thing. If you don't have bait, you think the crawfish is just going to go into the trap for nothing. You should get your container with holes in it, and but you bait in it. Somebody tried to but a can of tuna in his trap. The results was 1 crawfish. He then put a fresh fish he recently caught in his trap, and the result was a trap full of crawfish. So yes I think fresh fish will work the best. You may get a few crawfish with other thing, but fresh not rotten fish will work best. Crawfish hate rotten or stinky things.

Interesting hub on ways to catch a tasty morsel. They are certainly a popular catch and all the methods you detail will work but a trap seems to get the most for the least effort. No matter how you catch crawfish you will enjoy the rewards of your labor. Thanks for the tips.
